Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek – 6 Days Outline Itinerary

Day 01 Arrive Kathmandu, Fly to Pokhara Altitude: 900 m
Day 02 Drive to Birethanti, Trek to Ulleri Altitude: 2,020 m
Day 03 Trek to Ghorepani Altitude: 2,810 m
Day 04 Poon Hill Sunrise, Trek to Tadapani Altitude: 3,210 m
Day 05 Trek to Ghandruk, Drive to Pokhara Altitude: 2,610 m
Day 06 Fly to Kathmandu, Departure Altitude: 1,400 m

The trek starts with a flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara followed by a walk from the Birethanti trailhead through the Bhurungdi Khola River gorge to the rhododendron and oak forest village called Ulleri.

 

From there, the trail goes further into the forest towards Ghorepani through the pine and oak trees to enjoy the beautiful view of Mount Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail). The highlight of the trek is an early morning walk to Poon Hill (3,210 m), which offers a spectacular panoramic view of the sunrise over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain range.

 

After enjoying the panoramic mountain view, the trail leads us back towards forest ridges to Tadapani and then down to Ghandruk, a beautiful Gurung village with well-preserved ancient stone houses and the Annapurna Conservation Area Museum. We take a short drive to Pokhara from Ghandruk and then a short flight back to Kathmandu concludes this Himalayan trekking adventure.

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek – 6 Days Itinerary

01 DAY

Arrive Kathmandu, Fly to Pokhara

Fly into Kathmandu and connect onward to the lakeside city of Pokhara, the gateway to the Annapurna region. Spend the evening relaxing by Phewa Lake before the trek begins.

02 DAY

Drive to Birethanti, Trek to Ulleri

Travel by road from Pokhara to Birethanti, where the trail begins, and begin your trek along the Bhurungdi Khola valley. From there, you’ll need to climb a well-known, moderately challenging staircase to reach the village of Ulleri. This marks your entry into the Annapurna Trek region.
The drive typically lasts 2 to 3 hours, followed by a 4 to 5 hour trek.

03 DAY

Trek to Ghorepani

Trek from Ulleri to Ghorepani through dense rhododendron and oak forests. The trail gradually ascends, offering beautiful mountain scenery along the way. Upon reaching Ghorepani, enjoy your first close-up views of Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail).
Duration: 5–6 hours.

04 DAY

Poon Hill Sunrise, Trek to Tadapani

Rise before dawn and set off on a brief hike to Poon Hill, where you’ll be rewarded with stunning sunrise vistas and panoramic views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. Afterward, head back to Ghorepani for breakfast, then proceed on foot through forested trails and along ridgelines toward Tadapani.
Total trekking time: 6 to 7 hours.

05 DAY

Trek to Ghandruk, Drive to Pokhara

Descend on a short trek from Tadapani to Ghandruk, a picturesque Gurung village known for its traditional stone houses. Spend time exploring the village and visiting the Annapurna Conservation Area Museum. Afterward, drive back to Pokhara for a relaxing evening by the lakeside.
Approximately 4–5 hours of walking followed by a 2–3 hour drive.

06 DAY

Fly to Kathmandu, Departure

Return to Kathmandu from Pokhara by air, then proceed to your international departure flight. Optionally, you may extend your stay with an additional night in Kathmandu to explore the capital at your leisure.
Duration: Flight time between Pokhara and Kathmandu.
